I have always been interested in life after death, and in doing so have created a concept around transferring to another world / life via sleep. I've found it quite hard putting a story to this but so far I have the characters and a rough outline.
An old man, his days are spent in large arm chairs watching life move around him in a retirement home. Waiting for family to visit. Watching his vague life memories over and over in his head. Lonely.
But once asleep, he builds bridges, castles and friend ships in his new world. Occasionally fighting off jet sized space invaders and evil trees.
One evening, whilst trying to sneak through a maze built of flamingos the man becomes lost. He meets a faintly shaded young boy who is able to wander through the walls. On closer inspection, and to his dismay he realises it is his grandson.
The boy seemed happy. Helping each other they were able to find their way to the gardens of cupcakes. Then the boy disappeared.
This puzzled the old man. He knew where to find most of his retirement friends in this Limbo but there was never usually children, the world was vast.
Back in the real world, the old man considered what to do. To phone the parents? Tell them he'd seen them in his death world? Maybe he was just crazy.
Over breakfast a phone call for him. There had been an accident, but it was going to be alright.
A few weeks later they are reunited for an hour or so. They smile, the old man is happy that the grandson will be alright. The boy is happy because he knows his granddad is going on a new adventure.
